RB Group’s Mission to Israel

As one of the most innovative start-ups in aviation, RB Group was selected to participate in the EU Deep Dive Week Mission to Israel. CEO Richard Versluis and CTO Jeroen Derwort made the trip to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to connect with corporations, investors and start-ups in the Israeli ecosystem.

RB Group was selected among an elite group of start-ups, from across Europe, as experienced entrepreneurs with high potential companies in sectors such as fintech, traveltech, health tech, and energy transition to take part in the Mission to Israel.

Mission to Israel  – Tel Aviv tech

The first part of the program was packed with meetings in the Tel Aviv area. We were introduced to important ecosystem builders such as Start-up Nation Central, Google Start-up Campus and the Perez Center of Innovation. We discovered the success stories of the tech industry in Israel, of which there are many. We visited SimilarWeb and got a demo of their advanced analytics technology.

We did not forget to experience Tel Aviv itself. This city has a unique vibe to it. The streets are swarmed by e-scooters from different companies. We tried Lime and Bird and discovered how convenient this mode of transport is for short distances. From our apartment close to the Rothschild Boulevard, we were able to reach most destinations like this in under 30 minutes. We went to the beach which is an excellent place to reflect on company strategy. Or to have a cold beer. Or both!

DLD

On Wednesday, we visited the Digital Life & Design (DLD) fair. It brings together lots of start-ups in tech and investors. Around the fair, there are numerous meetups, from which we picked one at the Facebook office, where we got the unique opportunity to speak to the heads of innovation from companies like Iberostar and Amadeus.

“This mission was very valuable to us. We learned a lot about how to do business in Israel and were able to make connections to corporates and VC’s.” – Richard Versluis

At Google Campus, we participated in panel discussions with experts from the Israeli ecosystem and corporations that have a significant presence in Tel Aviv, such as Volkswagen Group, Deutsche Bank and Mobileye. To help us face such giants and perfect our pitches, Lior Shoham, one of the most famous pitch trainers in the world, treated us on an incredible masterclass.

Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, we were introduced to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI). This is the biggest university in Israel and one of the most innovative in the world. We also visited the Jerusalem Foundation, MadeInJLM, and OurCrowd.

Jerusalem faces unique challenges when it comes to the political situation. It is impressive to see what has been accomplished under these conditions. Jerusalem has seen strong growth as a tech hub in the last years. At Orcam, a leading R&D firm that develops a life-changing solution for visually impaired, we got an impressive demo of their latest technology.

But there’s a lot more to this city than tech. We explored the old city and the holy places that hold importance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The week has been extremely dynamic and valuable for RB Group. We learned a lot about doing business in Israel and gained invaluable connections, that will help us expand further towards our goal of becoming a meaningful and trusted part of all aviation professional’s lives.
